Vietnam, mainly because of its history, knows two main directions of Buddhism: Mahayana and Theravada. Next to these two, some small quantities of sects can be found, which have split from the main directions even as late as the 20^th century. Like in other Buddhist traditions all over Asia, the one in Vietnam carries a strong coloring of local habits and rituals, too.
